Laragne is a fabulously versatile place to fly catering for pilots of all levels of experience.

Details

We have been running XC courses and Ozone sponsored competions (Chabre Open) in this area for well over a decade.

Laragne has reliable conditions, and is suitable for all levels of pilot, mainly due to it's huge choice of take off sites, well established infrastructure, infinite array of potential routes and tasks, breath taking scenery and local hospitality.

The conditions in the south of France in August can sometimes be strong during the heat of mid afternoon, but strong days are often followed by beautiful XC conditions late afternoon or early evening making this stunning area suitable for pilots of all levels.

On these trips we will be concentrating on airtime and relaxation so we will visit some great sites and have multiple take offs each day to maximise potential.

There are plenty of other activities in this area such as climbing, paddlesport, walking, mountain biking etc. for partners or if we do get any down time.

This is without doubt my favourite place in the world to fly.

Chris.

Accommodation

We will be staying with David and Rachel at Allez-up which is situated between Laragne and Ribiers.

Dave and Rachael provide bed and breakfast accommodation at their beautiful gite with private pool, BBQ area, internet, en suite rooms and all mod cons.

Accommodation, airport transfers, transport and retrieves are payable directly to Allez up at a cost of 575 Euros.

Non flying partners are welcome at a cost of 300 euros per week (plus 50 euros airport transfers).

Flights & Transfers

The plan is for students to fly into Marseilles International airport, arriving on the Saturday before the course starts. Marseilles is served by many of the low cost airlines throughout the year as well as Air France, BA, KLM etc.

It is best to get a flight that arrives into Marseilles the Saturday afternoon before the cousre starts, arriving before 17.00. We will aim to depart from the airport by 18.00 and enjoy the 2 hour drive up the motorway through Provence to Allez Up, maybe stopping for dinner on the way in Aix or the local village.

At the end of the week there will be a minibus to take you back to Marseille, arriving at the airport around 15.30 on Saturday, so you will need to book a flight out of Marseilles, departing late that afternoon or evening, or spend the evening in Aix en Provence and get a flight on Sunday.

Pilots travelling independently need to vacate their rooms at Allez-up by 10:30 on the day of departure. We will only be running one minibus trip from and to the airport, arriving at 15.30 and departing at around 18.00, if your arrival or departure times differ from the main group you may need to make alternative transport arrangements.

There are 4 buses per day from the airport to Sisteron where we can pick you up. Others choose to drive. (Laragne is a 10-12 hour drive from Calais, with motorway class roads almost all the way). Or you can travel by train from the UK, which is often cheaper and easier than flying. We will be picking up and dropping off pilots from Aix en Provence TGV station on the way to or from the airport, times as above.

We are also happy to pick up pilots from Aix en Provence centre en route to or from the airport if you prefer to arrive early or depart later and spend some time in the beautiful city of Aix. The airport hotels at Marseille airport are OK and functional and clean but are very much airport Hotels and away from any amenities. Buses run from Marseille airport to Aix en Provence centre every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes in the evening (the bus trip takes 25 minutes).
