Turkey SIV / Acro

Availability : Yes

This SIV course has evolved and been perfected over twenty four years and is probably the most famous and talked about course we offer. Running alongside the SIV courses, we also offer bespoke Acro courses with our long time friend and colleague, Johan Eriksson. You now also have the option to do a Debag flight during your course !

You are taught all aspects of controlling your wing during the SIV, from deflations and wingovers to stall recovery and SATS, (if you wish). Then, when you fly XC, you have the added confidence and skill in glider control, which allows you to focus on positive things like finding lift and coring, which free's your mind and helps you fly further.

You will be given detailed briefings prior to each flight and in-flight instruction over the radio by Jocky beneath you in the safety boat, followed by an individual de-brief, usually in the comfort of the Mosaic hotel.

All flights are filmed in HD and handed over to you after the course to help pilots perfect their techniques by viewing the flights in their own time.

The idea of this course is to give you confidence in your ability to control your glider, so you must be able to hear the radio and understand the flight tasks you are asked to do. If you are not sure of any instruction given then please ask, we are here to help. We want you to enjoy this course and get a great deal out of it so ask questions and have a positive attitude. If you don't want to do any of the manouvres then let us know and we will change you flight program. We can do any flight manouvres to suit your ability and confidence.

The flight training schedule has been carefully designed to be progressive and maximise your training at an achievable pace, however, you can tailor each flight to your own personal requirements if you wish, whether you are participating in SIV or Acro. You will not be expected to move onto the next SIV flight program unless you are happy and confident to go on. Finally remember that you are the pilot in control and you have the final say with regards your own safety.

The normal schedule of this course is; Initial introductions, briefing and admin at 11.00am at the Mozaik hotel Followed by an SIV flight 1 Next two days usually have 2 flights a day, and we end the session with a last a la carte flight. We are only there to give advice and guide, therefore building your flying experience and confidence. You are all qualified and experienced enough to make your own decisions. If in doubt ask.

Conditions can be cool on launch as Babadag reaches almost 2km above sea level so please bring a flying suit or similar.

You will be provided with a bouyancy aid and a water proof radio bag. We will be using 2-metre band radios so if you need to hire one please let Escape know before the course. Hire fee is £30 per week.

Additional Info

As seen in all our films, we fly in Olu Deniz on Turkey's Turquoise Coast. Apart from offering some stunning flying, Turkey is one of the friendliest and most surprising countries we have visited. Superb ancient Roman and Lycian sites, dramatic inland and coastal scenery, excellent food, and a rich culture combining the best of Europe and Asia, provide a splendid backdrop to some brilliant flying. Once you have made your first visit to Turkey, there is a good chance you'll already be planning your next trip on the flight home!

Baba Dag provides a beautiful introduction to mountain flying. Flying close to the rocks and trees or out, a vertical mile above an unbelievably turquoise sea, even low airtime pilots can experience the full measure of our exhilarating sport. Our world-wide mountaineering and mountain flying experience is integral to the safety and development of your flying.

Guide / Instructor

Undoubtedly the most experienced team working in Turkey, Jocky and co. will provide you with the best information about local conditions. SIV Courses are conducted by Jocky and the Acro segment is conducted by Johan Eriksson.

Mosaik Hotel

The Mosaik Hotel is a wonderfully designed, modern hotel, set back in the quiet part of Oludeniz, with apartments and rooms leading directly into the large lagoon style swimming pool. The food, cultured mediterranean gardens, and staff all work toward making this one of the best places in Oludeniz to spend a quiet holiday, which is just what you need when you want to focus on an intense SIV course and flying holiday. Because of our close, long term relationship with the Mosaik's owners, they have kindly offered all Escape course participants a discounted rate. Prices start from £35 pppn B&B based on 2 sharing, depending on season. The mosaik has wi-fi, TV's, and all the modern services associated with this high class resort. If you need us to arrange your stay and/or transfer, then please email us with your flight details and we will book you in.

Flying Dutchman Hotel

The Flying Dutchman hotel is in the centre of Oludeniz and is a very clean, friendly family run hotel with a fun American theme. The owner becomes Elvis on a Wednesday and Saturday evening, other evenings sometimes have live music to serenade the diners while they are enjoying the delicious food. The hotel is a short walk from the beach. It is immaculate, with a pool and all rooms have en-suite facilities, together with a room safe, and balconies. Prices start from £30 pppn based on 2 sharing.

Standard rooms are twin bedded although there are family and double rooms available on request. Breakfast is provided on the main terrace and by the pool from 7.30AM. They also run the "steakhouse" restaurant which provide delicious lunches and evening meals at discount prices for residents.

Sugar Beach

The Sugar beach is a very stylish tranquil resort set on the shores of the famous blue lagoon, this idyllic location is more for the matured traveller who still appreciates the chilled beach vibe like the old Thai travelling days, but who prefers more luxury and modern facilities. The wooden beach chalets have air conditioning, en-suite facilities and their own balconies. Breakfast is served on the beach so you can watch the fishermen lazily breaking the calm water with their lines, amid relaxing sounds of birds singing and gentle music in the back ground. Because of the laid back atmosphere, breakfast isn't available early so you may miss it if we have an early briefing. Prices start from around £25 pppn based on 2 sharing a basic chalet.

Due to the fact that the beach is on the lagoon, the water is always calm and warmer than the main beach which makes it safe and suitable for those with young families.

There are sun loungers and umbrellas on the flat sandy beach as well as a beach bar serving drinks and snacks.

Evenings are usually quiet, ideal for those who want to relax after a long day flying or those with young children, although it is only a 10 minute walk to the main beachfront where you will find an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. There is a regular courtesy bus from Sugar Beach if you want to conserve energy.

All three places have free Wi-fi connection.
